The Holidays are Coming!

The 2010 holiday season is approaching!  It's hard to believe it, but we will soon reach the mad, mad rush known as holiday time.  Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving, and the Christmas holidays are right around the corner.  As we approach this time, I would like to offer a few suggestions for holiday learning with your child.

•·        Work with your child to write letters to local veterans (smaller children can draw pictures).

•·        As you plan holiday meals explore colors, shapes, and numbers with your child. (Ex: Is the turkey bigger or smaller than the ham?  I need ten sweet potatoes.  Can you count to be sure I have enough?  What color is the cranberry sauce?  If we double the recipe how many cups of flour will we need?)

•·        As your child begins requesting items from Santa, have them write to explain why they want certain items.

•·        Read something with your child everyday during vacation.

As the holiday season approaches, remember that a vacation from school doesn't have to mean a vacation from learning!
